Projects

In an effort to keep sage grouse from being listed under the Endangered Species Act, Phillips Conservation District wanted to showcase the conservation efforts that many Phillips County landowners voluntarily practice to promote healthy rangelands that benefit both livestock and wildlife alike.

Currently, the sage grouse is under consideration to be listed under the Endangered Species Act.  The goal of this project was to develop two YouTube videos, a PowerPoint presentation and a brochure to foster public understanding and stewardship of sage grouse, and local landowners’ activities that promote sage grouse conservation.

Alex Porter, a Malta High School graduate, was hired in the Summer of 2011 by PCD as the Sage Grouse Student Intern, to assist with their Sage Grouse Project.

Alex spent his summer interviewing local producers, technical agency staff and others which led to the production of two YouTube videos, a PowerPoint presentation and a brochure.

The project was funded by two grants, as well as in-kind donations from Ranchers Stewardship Alliance and Montana Department of Natural Resources Conservation.
